We slipped over the border to Lichtenstein last evening and enjoyed a glass of local white wine in Schellenberg, driving the back roads from Tosters back to Nofels where we are staying. Thank gooodness for the Mini as these roads are often little more than lanes and tortuously follow the contour of this mountainous terrain. It is most beautiful here, the mountains seem to dictate weather and cloud patterns, much as the gulf/ocean breezes do Tampa. The sun glistening off the distant Alpine peaks contrasts with the deep dark green forests below. It has been a very fruitful trip genealogically as we seem to have finally found our place of origin, and it is fascinating. The terrain around Feldkirch most resembles the Ohio Valley around Maysville and Northern Kentucky where our immigrant forefathers settled five generations ago (six for you Autumn :-) The distant Alps are missing, but the lower level hills are quite similar. I have time this morning to catch up on the photos and reflect o the last three busy days.
